Community Service

In 2007, WOVI dedicated the entire revenue of the Annual December Silent Auction to benefit women in the community.

The primary recipient of WOVI's warmth and support is a single mom and her three young daughters. Having experienced a severe trauma, this single mom needed financial help in order to get through a period of recovery in which she could not work. Through gifts, gift certificates and payments of utility bills, WOVI helped this family through the holidays and beyond. WOVI partnered with the Neighborhood Service Council to make this happen. The Neighborhood Service Council provides low-income children access to services and programs which give special attention to the requirements for healthy development of children, families and individuals,

The second contribution supports a beautiful thirteen year-old girl enduring the experience and treatment of a rare form of cancer. This contribution was made through CaringBridge. Caring-Bridge® is a 501(c)(3) nonprofit web service that connects family and friends during a critical illness, treatment or recovery.

Since March 2003, WOVI has supported local organizations that empower and aid women and their families to move ahead in life. WOVI collects gently worn clothing at every meeting and delivers them to these organizations. Some of these organizations include: The Family Place, Genesis Women's Shelter, Attitudes & Attire, Austin Street Centre, Hope's Door and Good Samaritans of Garland.

In December 2003, WOVI adopted a single mother household through Good Samaritans of Garland bringing a bright holiday filled with food, clothing, gifts and gift certificates to the woman and her three young daughters.

Lynda Rhodes, VP-Executive Board of Women of Visionary Influence (WOVI, Inc.) recently presented Jerry Hill, Head of the Visual Communications Department at Brookhaven Community College, a check for the Visual Communication Scholarship Fund as part of WOVI's continued community outreach activities. Students from the department and under Mr. Hills' supervision provided the design and graphics for a new WOVI brochure.
